About the Bocanegras
A Filipino-American who grew up in Tokyo (10 yrs) and Manila (8 yrs). He graduated from Stanford University majoring in Economics and East Asian Studies. While in university, he became a Christian in freshman year, but felt a call to the pastorate as he interned at various multinational companies in Tokyo.
To discern his call, Mark worked in Tokyo, Japan at Rakuten Ichiba, the largest Japanese internet company, while serving at Oyumino Christ Church. After meeting and marrying Megumi at Oyumino, they went to Escondido, CA so he could get his M.Div from Westminster Seminary California. Now, he returned to Japan as a Mission to the World (MTW) missionary and as a ordained teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA) of the South Coast Presbytery. He pastored at Oyumino Christ Church in Chiba for two years before being called to Kaihin Makuhari Grace Church.
He enjoys reading church history, trying out hole-in-the-wall restaurants, playing basketball and volleyball, and learning new board games.
Megumi grew up in Chiba, Japan, which is east of Tokyo. Although she grew up in a Christian home, she became a Christian in high school and was baptized at Oyumino Christ Church. She developed a heart for youth and college ministry while studying at the largest Evangelical Japanese university, Tokyo Christian University. She also served as part-time staff at Oyumino Christ Church. After Mark, her husband, returned to pastor at Oyumino Christ Church, she is a full-time mom and enjoys doing hospitality and reaching out to young mothers.
She loves baking, crafts, and beating her husband at board games.
